Somalia Open Data Initiative

Open knowledge.
Shared possibilities.

Nonprofit initiativeFree accessSomalia & beyond

The Somalia Open Data Initiative (SODI) is building a searchable home for data that supports research, learning and informed decisions.

Somalia is our starting point. We also aim to connect people with useful datasets from other places, giving local questions a wider context.

Access will be free. Each dataset will include its source and reuse license so you can understand where it comes from and how it may be used.

How we prepare data

From source to shared data.

Useful open data needs care at every stage. This is the workflow we are building around each dataset.

  1. 01

    Collect

    Identify useful sources and datasets.

  2. 02

    Review

Check quality, permissions and sensitive information.

  3. 03

    Document

Describe the source, fields, coverage and license.

  4. 04

    Publish

Make approved datasets discoverable and accessible.

  5. 05

    Maintain

Record updates and preserve version history.
